Penhydd Farm

This farm was troubled by a ghost during the early 19th century, and ultimately exorcised with the assistance of Benjamin Williams. He was Benny’r Fiddler because he made violins and often played at festivities, weddings – and even exorcisms! He played at the farm on three successive nights, and the spirit left. We an only assume that the spirit did not like violin music.

Pwll Gwen Marw

Pwll Gwen Marw translates as Dead Lady’s Pool, and was said to be located in the River Afan below Tewgoed Colliery. It was said that due to the ravages of nature the pool was perilous. The ghost of the dead lady was said to float over the pool and warn any unsuspecting travellers of its dangers as they passed by.
